Pete Carroll Among 16 Athletes and Coaches   Redwood High Inducts into Its New Hall of Fame

LARKSPUR, CA—Olympians and professional athletes, including a World Series hero, and one of the most successful Division I collegiate football coaches of all-time, are among the 12 athletes who will be inducted April 23 into the charter class of the Redwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Redwood, a 1,400-student, four-year school in Marin County, is honoring the inductees as part of its 50th anniversary celebration. The school opened in late 1958.

Heading the inductees is Pete Carroll, head football coach at the University of Southern California, Buddy Biancalana, who enjoyed David Letterman fame for his performance in leading the Kansas City Royals to their World Series championship in 1985, and Ken Flax, who represented the United States in the hammer throw at the Seoul Summer Olympic Games in 1988 and the Barcelona Summer Olympic Games in 1992.
Also topping the list of athletic notables is Chad Kreuter, a former major league baseball player who is now the head baseball coach at the University of Southern California.

In addition to the 12 athletes, two past coaches and two merit/service administrators were elected. These special 16 people make up the charter class of the Redwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame and will be honored at an induction dinner in the ballroom of the Seafood Peddler Restaurant in San Rafael on April 23, 2009. Eligibility
To be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame, an athlete must have graduated at least 15 years prior to the nomination, while a coach must have completed his or her coaching at Redwood at least three years prior to nomination. A “Merit/Service” supporter of the program can be nominated at any time.

All athletes who competed at the varsity level at Redwood and graduated in 1994 and before were eligible to become charter members. After the nomination process, 12 outstanding athletes who excelled during high school and continued showing athletic excellence in college and in some cases, at a professional level, were elected to the charter class. The Hall of Fame nominating committee included Redwood High’s principal, athletic director, the president of the Benchwarmers booster club, and five other voting members. Inductees generally were decided upon by consensus. In cases where there was no consensus, a majority vote of 75 percent of the committee members allowed for induction.
